Cultivating Culture

It often feels impossible
To drive change from within.
After all, aren’t we just gears in the machine?
How can we win?

We don’t control the money.
We cannot steer the ship.
All we’re asked to do is paddle
And trust that the boat won’t tip.

Well, I’d like to share a secret
That I think deep down you know:
The captain controls the rudder
But it’s you and me who row!

We don’t pick the destination
Sometimes we can’t see the map,
But we set the pace of travel
And adjust as the waves slap.

Row smooth and steady, use the wind,
Together, side by side,
And perhaps it doesn’t matter
Where we’re going; it’s the ride.

So let’s connect with crewmates
Like we’re joining them at war,
And let’s sing songs of successes
So loud we are heard onshore.

Let’s sail along with joy and grace,
Let’s keep an even keel,
And let’s not forget who’s rowing
When it’s our turn at the wheel.
